Education should be simple enough: bring together children and young people in schools and colleges, draw out their talents and capabilities and help them achieve qualifications.
But things are more complicated than that. Policies change, Ministers change, and, at an even quicker rate, initiatives are taken by Ministers to make smaller changes – with often bigger impacts at the local level. The curriculum moves on, new tests and assessments develop, the qualifications regime evolves. And as if that was not enough, Acts of Parliament change the law – schools and colleges then need their own policies for Child Protection, Data Protection, Freedom of Information, Disability Discrimination, etc, etc.
And governors are expected to be on top of all this – they have a legal status and particular responsibilities and they want to do a good job for their school, college, fellow governors, staff and the children and young people they serve.
They need help and support – and have access to it that is quick, simple and reliable.
This is what the Employee Governors Network is for. Working with our partner organisations:
The National Governor Association (NGA)
The School Governors’ One Stop Shop (SGOSS)
The National Co-ordinators of Governor Services (NCOGS)
...and with FEdS member companies, we have devised a networked community for your use as an employee governor where:
* share ideas about the things that are facing you and your school or college
* ask questions about how key issues are being tackled and get answers that help you
* exchange ideas about what works with each other to improve your effectiveness
We will also work with you to develop the potential of the site for canvassing opinions about important issues for education and for identifying the things you would most like to see the EGN doing in support of your work as a governor.
We hope you will enjoy using the site and find it an invaluable ally in your work.
